Young Adults Discuss the Relationship between Climate Change and the Economy

On the weekend of the 7.- 9. February 2020 young adults between the ages of 15 and 26 came together for a workshop by the Junge Akademie of the Evangelische Akade-mie der Pfalz. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the relationship between climate change and the economy.

Saturday morning Elke Groh, who works for the Chair of Empirical Economic Research at the University of Kassel, incorporated a scientific perspective into the discussion. After introducing the basic concepts of climate change and international climate agreements, the BMBF-funded research project NostaClimate was used to illustrate research on potential climate protection activities of different non-state actors.

The workshop attendees were very creative in developing possible climate protection activities for non-state actors. During the very engaged and lively discussion afterwards, they also scrutinized the missing motivation of individual players on climate protection goals – also referring to themselves.
