ZEW Visiting Researchers Programme (VRP)

ZEW provides researchers with outstanding opportunities to conduct research in a highly stimulating environment. To promote the international exchange and networking of researchers, we have established the ZEW Visiting Researchers Programme (VRP). The VRP supports established researchers as well as promising young economists coming to ZEW for research stays of at least four weeks.

As a visiting researcher you will be expected to collaborate closely with ZEW staff. You will be integrated into our research activities and/or focus on your own research. ZEW will provide you with all necessary facilities. You will be closely involved in our daily academic life, e.g. by attending talks, conferences, and other events. You will also have the chance to present your work and receive feedback from peers at our weekly seminars.

Major aims of your research stay will be to work towards a joint publication with ZEW researchers as well as to lay a foundation for long-term scientific cooperation possibly resulting in exchange visits between ZEW and your home institution.

Our application process is informal. You can apply at any time by sending a cover letter including the preferred time frame for your stay, your full CV, a publication record, a research statement including an abstract of the work you want to undertake at ZEW, and contact details of two references.

Applications should be submitted electronically or by post to ZEW. If you have any inquiry about the VRP, please contact:

It was a great opportunity for me as a visiting researcher from McMaster University to carry out my individual research and to collaborate with academic fellows on shared scholarly interests at ZEW, one of Germany’s leading economic research institutes. The Visiting Researchers Programme helps not only to build a network for scholars for professional development but more importantly to promote and facilitate high-quality indigenous research.
