The project "Integrated Assessment of a Green Transformation: An Assessment of Economic, Social, and Technological Transformation Pathways" (InTrans), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), aims to identify long-term pathways towards an ecologically and socially sustainable low-carbon economy and society. The interdisciplinary project brings together researchers from a variety of disciplines, including economics, philosophy, and sociology.
In the course of the project, five different work packages are implemented. Work package (WP) 1 examines aspects of procedural fairness during the transformation process from a theoretical perspective. The results from WP1 are then empirically examined in WP2, using methods of experimental economics and experimental philosophy. WP3 investigates so-called, matching mechanisms, a relevant method for the provision of impure public goods. These,'matching mechanism' may serve to increase the feasibility of cooperation in terms of the provision of public goods, and may therefore play a significant role in the transformation process. In WP4, aspects of technological progress and technological change are explored within the framework of a dynamic general equilibrium model. Based on a microsimulation framework, WP5 investigates the distributive effects of various transformation pathways at the level of private households. Finally, sociological methods are applied in WP6 in order to identify possible obstacles in the adaptation of technology by households and industry, which may possibly impede the transformation process.
